How
to Find and Subscribe
to Newsgroups with OUI
![]()
With over 40,000 newsgroups making up Usenet, there's a topic to cover every possible interest. Some newsgroups are moderated, some are retromoderated and the vast majority are unmoderated. When you first run OUI, the Newsgroup database will be prepared (this can take a few minutes), and then the Add Newsgroups! dialog will appear. In the Search or Specify: field, type in a keyword such as "Rabbits". OUI will search all the newsgroup types for newsgroups with the word "Rabbits" in them. The search is not case dependent, so it doesn't matter if you use upper or lower case. Once you've found a newsgroup you want to subscribe to, double-click on it, OR, single click on it and press the Subscribe button. To keep things simple, add just one or two newsgroups before going to the next step. Press Close when you are finished. Note: Do not use "alt" as the first word of the search as OUI will crash due to the number of "alt" newsgroups. Use a more descriptive search word, eg.if you are looking for "alt.movies", use the word "movies". Author: Bob Loeffler |
