Courier
can be fully integrated with PopFile OUISoft persident & CEO, Ed Pulliam explains his experience with Courier and PopFile - Courier can use filters to get rid of unwanted email. I had about 600 filter rules set up, which filtered about 85% of unwanted messages. It took a fair amount of time to manage these filter rules. Then, I discovered a free program (GNU General Public License) called PopFile. PopFile works entirely on your local computer. It doesn't rely on a web based service to operate. The program acts as a mail server between your Internet Service Provider's mail server and your email client. Your regular email client then retrieves the email from this local server. But PopFile has marked the retrieved message as spam, if it believes that it is. Courier then can filter on these markings, and deposit the bad stuff into a folder so you can give them a quick look before deleting. For the first few days I used it, PopFile made a few mistakes. It let some spam through, and mistakenly classified a few good emails as spam. I simply reclassified these messages, and PopFile learned from its mistakes. I found it 80% accurate upon installation. After three days, it's running at 92%. Others who have used PopFile with Courier for a longer time, tell me that after a week or so it gets to about 98.5%, with virtually no false positives. Why Courier with PopFile? Courier is the only email program that integrates a call to the PopFile program to reclassify a received message. By drop down menu (right click on message in the message summary list, and sellect "Reclassify") or a keystroke shortcut (control - G) you can call up PopFile from within Courier. Courier also works with PopFile to allow addresses in your Courier address book to be "whitelisted" so that they will not be treated as spam, ever. INSTRUCTIONS ON
